Here’s what happens when enough readers ask an indie author to bring back a series they love….
To be honest, I cannot believe the outpouring of love I’ve witnessed for the families of Blueberry Lane. The sales on my last two books (The Bohemian and the Businessman and The Director and Don Juan) reflected a waning interest in the series. But since announcing that I wouldn’t be writing further stories, I have received an email, message or post comment almost daily from grieved fans, asking me to please consider resurrecting the series.
At first I thought…“Oh, well, a few fans loved it and they will miss it. I’m sorry for that, but I have bills to pay.” But as the messages continued to pour in, something interesting happened. I started imagining ways to return to Blueberry Lane.
Don’t get me wrong…I’m still gunshy about writing a full-length novel (poor sales can be really – EPICALLY – traumatic) but the demand from devoted fans seemed to be such that writing a novella – especially in time for the holidays – could be (possibly…maybe…hopefully…) a safer risk.
My friends? I’m going to be really honest here: based on the sales from the previous books, this is one crazy mission. Anyone who writes indie would advise me definitely, positively not to do this. They would tell me I’m nuts to pour money, time and energy back into a series that wasn’t selling. They’d tell me that I am ridiculous for giving it one last try. They’d tell me to concentrate on the books that are selling and walk quickly away from the ones that aren’t…
But I have something that they don’t have: faith in all of you. I am trusting my audience right now – more than I ever have before – to turn out for this little novella and make it worthwhile for me to return to Blueberry Lane one last time.
Thank you for believing in me and this series.
So much love
